Today marks the anniversary of my father's birth, 2/17/1929.


    Today also marks the passing of pianist Thelonius Monk, following a long illnes (1982).  A jazz giant, he was 64 years of age.

Miles Davis also died at 64. So did my father. Sounds like many of the great visionaries who made it past the early addictions buy their way to 64, then the whole thing finally just wears out and gives up. Thank God Monk, Mingus, and Miles all had extra time on this wonderful earth to grace us with their gifts.

Me two Adrian. I'd hate to think that no one here really apperciates Cougar Estrada! IMO, he's one of the best drummers I've heard in a long time. Maybe the key is that we just have to add it in ourselves, or just learn to take a hint. I'll try the former first. :roll:

Trish, Fernando Valenzuela is a color commentator on the Dodgers' Spanish-language radio broadcasts (KWKW, 1330 AM) anchored by Jaime Jarrin and Pepe Yniguez, and plays a lot of golf at courses near his home in La Canada, CA.  He also pitched this winter in the Mexican Pacific League for the Aguilas de Mexicali.  His son, Fernando, Jr., is a first baseman in the San Diego Padres' farm system.
