1st: overall:  great work, good job (thanks again) but it'll be good to get as familiar with where everything is as we were with where it used to be  ???

2nd:  I think the 'special features' stuff folks are having problems w/ are things like pictures/avatars.  I tried to add one, and make some changes to my profile, and they don't seem to have taken

3rd:  could we have a permanent, prominent link to Dan's site?  pretty please?

4th: aside from leaving copies of pm's in our outboxes (thanks VERY much for allowing greater storage of pm's), is there another way to save sent items?

5th:  not sure how I feel about being reminded how much time I spend/waste here.  That "Total Time Logged In" thingy is kinda disconcerting... :o

Thanks...but you still have to buy me a beer next time I'm in Texas.  ;D

So far as avatars go, you are not able to 'add' them: only the admins can do that. You can, however, link to an external picture as your avatar just like you could and can link pictures.

The "add your own" feature was visible but wasn't activated. I've removed it for now. It's early in the process; and I'm not exactly sure how much space everything will take up. If in the future it appears we aren't comsuming an inordinate amount of storage, we can try activating that feature. I kind of like the idea of people doing their own shopping for avatars. I'm sure you do too.

That can be arranged later this evening. I had it up...then moved some stuff around and forgot to put it back up.

Unfortunately, no. The PM's reside within the database and are not linked to a mail server...by design. If we've learned anything of the demise of the "Neighborhood I" it's that public forums are not that secure. I don't think we want to know what it would be like if  everyone's PM's got emailed all over the place.  *shudder*

One board I'm on has me up to 62 days, 6 hours and 32 minutes...and I'm not even in the Top 50 in the time-online category.  But if there's a concensus about removing that feature...I think it can be done. I'm still new to all this...

how 'bout the next time we're at the same place?  I've really developed a wanderin' jones.  (and you shoulda been here last week, ya know)

I might've misspoke about adding avatars.  Specifically, I tried to insert/link/whatever to the DB Cooper one listed.  No big deal; I'm kinda ambivalent about avatars, sigs and emoticons

And don't take down the "years of your life wasted" stat.  At least I know where that time's gone, unlike other frivolousness...

and does this mean the end of redstrat?  sniff...

Well...not really. One of the features should be the ability to change your forum name. I know there are people who make it quite the event to come up with a new nom de plume

I'm curious, is the option for embedding Flash content going to be enabled, or no?

It is going to be disabled for the time being. There are some security issues with allowing Flash to be embedded into posts; and I want to watch operations & traffic for a while before deciding whether to allow Flash embedding. I used to think that The Neighborhood was small and unobtrusive enough not to have these concerns; but I guess we were proven wrong ten days ago.

I'll put it on the list and we can revisit the idea at another time.

Cool. Thanks Steve.

really like that when we get a pm notification, the sender and message are reproduced within the body of the notice (well, not like the actual sender gets cloned or anything, but...)

and I'm sure the ignore feature will make folks happy, but now I've got somethin else to keep me awake at night...anybody reading this? testing...
