Steve, I see you use a Mac, what do you use to edit your recordings?

I use Fission, it has worked great for me, keep in mind that I'm greener then a pool table in this recording/editing/transfer stuff.

Just got a Sony PCM - M10. The Tascam/iPod rig failed me 4 times, 2LL, and 2 Stones gigs. I did some research about the Tascam software for the iOS devices and it's not very positive.

I will give the Sony a go next month for the Alabama Shakes, then the LL in Indio in August. Maybe next year I can get some mics and other goodies.

My M10 works out pretty well for me. In my case, when at a show, I put it out as an ambient recorder to catch things while I'm setting up. Since I'm usually there early, I pick up a lot of the backline set up and chatter around the soundboard (crowd noise/convo, FOH engineer trying to get things tweaked, etc). The M10 is certainly sturdier than the Edirol R-4 I used to have.

I've tried lots of programs; but primarily I use MOTU Digital Performer to record, mixdown and edit when I record multitrack (which is most of the time) and use BIAS Audio Peak Pro 4 when I'm using a single stereo source. (Note: BIAS Audio bit the dust last year; so eventually Peak will be obsolete for me). To FLAC up and tag things I use xAct.

Update to the M10. I got some CA-14 omnis and a SP bat box, and this really bitchin' mount for the rig on my tripod, 1/8" tempered hardboard with a custom white oak mic mounting bar. I whipped this baby out in the shop in about 30 mins, you gotta start somewhere, hahaha.

Awesome, can't wait to hear the results. Good thing you didn't try to get that thing in the Whisky last night, what a nightmare dealing with those nazis, but they were kind enuff to offer to charge me to tape.
