Sorry to bring down the level of discussion, but I have just recently started guitar lessons.  I was listening to Cielito Lindo - specifically the beginning section, and can't for the life of me get it right.  Its a simple, 1-2-3, 1-2-3 but I can't find it when I try to play it.

Can anybody take pity on me?  I can't read music yet, so if you could tell me String and Fret, String and Fret, or Chord and Chord, that I would understand!

Thanks much to anyone who can help.

If there are other songs you can think of that are simple, I'd be all ears as well.  I can play Happy Birthday and the basics of "Tequila" at this point, but haven't trained my ears very well.

Also, I can pick decently, but really struggle with my fingers on chords, so my strumming is really ragged.
believe I've created a monster, or perhaps several of them!

That right there is as easy as I can make it and still impress your friends lol.  Yes, the song is 1,2,3  1,2,3  1,2,3.  Musicians call that 3/4 time. I did my best to make the chords stand right on top of where the "1" in the "1,2,3" would be so you know exactly when to change the chord.  My best suggestion would be to put the guitar down, listen to the song, and follow along with the tab.  It will help your ear and help you learn the song.  Learning music is all about breaking things down.  Once you think you have an idea of where the chords change, pick up your guitar and just strum right where they change.  Don't worry about keeping time with the "1,2,3's" right away.  When you're ready to really start playing, just take it slow.  A nice and easy 1,2,3 will do it.  After you get accurate with the chord changes, then pick up the speed.  You'll be on your way before you know it.  Good luck!  Practice!  Develop that muscle memory!
