What guitar is David Hidalgo playing?

I'm guessing Mando meant G&L. G&R gave me enough to go on though. I think i found it.

That does look like the critter. The pickups had me thinking Fender 12-string; and from what you found, it does share a lineage. Like the idea of the lighter "swamp ash" body.

I talked to Dave at the Super Seven show about the G&L. He told me that he went to the factory and they had a prototype of the guitar, Dave said it was one of the last guitars that Leo worked on. They ended up making him one. He was telling me that it can split coils, in and outta phase...get's that Jerry tone! Basically it a swiss army knife, a great gigging guitar, he loves it. We were having a great talk about that guitar and others then Mando started hustling them all back inside for the last set. Always fun talking guitars with the big guy, amazing stuff.
