the 2015 show at Great American Music Hall was excellent... I wasn't sure they could pull it off but they sounded tight that night... I need to get that album...

and Woofie himself produced Hammond's excellent 2003 album Ready for Love...

I remember seeing Hammond perform at the Sausalito Art Festival in 2001 before I knew the album even existed and I'm standing there and a few songs go by and I'm thinking to myself "hey, wait a minute, these are all..."

Gin Soaked Boy

Get Behind the Mule

In 2001, blues singer John Hammond released Wicked Grin, a collection of songs written by his friend, the musical icon Tom Waits, with Waits at the helm as producer. Now, in an exclusive-to-Vancouver, two-nights-only special performance, Hammond—with musical direction by celebrated producer Steve Dawson—brings the album and other memorable Waits material to the stage, joined by musical luminaries, including JUNO-winning bluesman Jim Byrnes, jazz songstress Jill Barber, guitar master Dawson and the legendary Los Lobos frontman David Hidalgo, plus the Black Hen house band.

It always seemed like he was a big LL supporter too... one of the first times I saw LL it was opening for TP&THB... later that night (I didn't make it, doh) they did a surprise show with Campbell and Tench at Slim's...

Petty had developed some deep roots in LA but to me he will always be a Florida boy, just like me... Seeing him in 1980 completely changed the way I related to live music... thanks bro

SO WHAT'S THE CLOSEST DIVE MOTEL NEAREST THE VENUE??? WALKING DISTANCE (STUMBLING) PREFERRED

The closest places to crash are B&Bs and you don't strike me as a B&B kinda guy... everything else is about two miles away... I'm going to check in with the venue about the likelihood of catching a car service after the show... I was thinking of hitting the Auburn Alehouse first and then heading over to the gig... the Alehouse is pretty nice and about a mile away...
