Title: Kittanning (Pittsburgh), Aug. 31
Post by: Annette Bassett on September 01, 2019, 04:58:46 pm
I had such a good time at the show last night. An outdoor venue, right along the Allegheny River - people pulled up their boats to listen. A beautiful night as well. (People bitch about the weather around here all the time, but honestly, I don't remember seeing as many gorgeous evenings as I have this summer.)

Kittanning is about 30 miles north of Pittsburgh, so that's starting to get into Pennsyltucky MAGA territory. I only saw one Trump t-shirt - on a younger guy, unfortunately.    But the dancing area up front looked like any other Lobos show - old hippies, etc.

It was a glorious show. No Conrad, which means I have not seen the whole band since December 2017 (sigh). I missed Conrad's smiling face. But Vincent filled the role well.

The whole band seemed to be in great spirits. Lots of smiles and goofing around from Cesar and even Louie (smiles, anyway). Bugs is always pure joy to watch. And Dave and Steve were right there with them.

They opened with 3-4 Mexican songs, which went over well. I didn't keep a setlist because I was enjoying it all too much, but there were a number of favorites: a long, beautiful Teresa, The Neighborhood, the Cesar stuff (Shakin Shakin and Don't Worry Baby), Let's Say Goodnight, Will the Wolf Survive...and Kiko literally gave me chills. Had not experienced that before.

The crowd really loved it. And I made a true convert out of my friend Anne who came, bought a t-shirt, etc. And it was FREE. Best deal ever.

In my current state of unemployment, I probably won't be traveling to too many shows for the forseeable future. (I even skipped Buffalo on 8/29, which I now regret. :'() But I won't forget last night for a long time. <3 <3

Yes, I heard that. Enjoyed a brief talk with Dave, during which I learned that Linda Ronstadt is a wonderful badass who he used to have a crush on, and is very pleased that he now gets to work with her; that he (of course) fucking hates ICE and the related crap that's going on (I asked if they could please play a voter registration event and he said he hopes they do); and the Christmas album is going to be "something different."

And that Irish soldiers joined the Mexicans to fight in the Mexican War, which was a "bullshit war." Already knew that, but good to hear.

Love David. <3

I have never seen a show w/o Conrad....Cesar on the other hand was not at the recent Flying Monkey show.
I hope all are on hand for the upcoming Blue Ocean show.

You might already know about this but the Chieftains and Ry Cooder recorded a cd a few years back about this very subject.

What Annette said...the spot in Kittanning right on the banks of the Allegheny River was sublime. The band killed, and the locals dug it.

Actually Linda once told me (and my daughter is a witness) that she had a big crush on David. Maybe it is mutual. This was at a lovely event Los Cenzontles did awhile back. Ronstadt was the guest of honor and my girl and I had the honor of sharing a table with her while we ate some BBQ. The sweetest moment of that event was when David was taking the stage he made a point of stopping to talk to Linda and give her a peck on the cheek. There's obviously a lot of mutual admiration and affection there.

Cesar may get much of the attention from the ladies, but I know a lot of gals who think David is muy guapo too (of course Bugs will always have my girl's heart).
